Our position
civ.games is an independent, non-commercial fan project about a specific era of computer games. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Firaxis Games, 2K, or the former MicroProse. All product names, trademarks, logos and artwork referenced on this site are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification, historical documentation and commentary.
We take rights seriously and we would rather remove something quickly than argue about it. A single email from a rights holder is enough — no lawyer, no forms, no fee.
Reporting content
Send your notice to andrej.mecir@gmail.com with “DMCA / copyright” in the subject line. This address is the site's designated contact for copyright, trademark and publicity-rights complaints.
So that we can act on your notice without a round of clarifying questions, please include all of the following. These are the elements a notice needs under section 512(c)(3) of the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and they make an equivalent request under other jurisdictions equally easy to act on:
- Who you are — your name, postal address, telephone number and email address, and the rights holder you represent if it is not you personally.
- What is yours — identification of the copyrighted work, trademark or other material you claim has been infringed. A registration number or a link to the original is ideal; a clear description is enough.
- Where it is — the full URL of every page on civ.games carrying the material, precise enough for us to locate it. One notice can list many URLs.
- A good-faith statement — that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law.
- A statement of accuracy — that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your signature — physical or electronic. Typing your full name at the end of the email is fine.
What happens next
- Acknowledgement. We aim to confirm receipt within two business days.
- Action. Where a notice is complete and the claim is plausible, the material is removed or disabled promptly — normally within five business days, and often the same day. We do not wait for a dispute to be resolved before taking material down.
- Notification. If the material was submitted by a user, we tell them what was removed and why, and pass on a copy of the notice.
- Record. We keep a log of notices and of what was done in response.
Counter-notice
If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, write to the same address with “Counter-notice” in the subject line, including: your contact details; identification of the material and the location it appeared before removal; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification; and your consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate court, together with a statement that you will accept service of process from the complaining party.
We forward valid counter-notices to the original complainant. If they do not notify us that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity, the material may be restored in 10 to 14 business days.
Repeat infringers
Accounts that repeatedly submit infringing material — in reviews, uploads or any other user contribution — are terminated. This is applied as a standing policy, not case by case.
User contributions
Reviews, ratings and any other text submitted through civ.games remain the work of their authors, who are responsible for what they post and confirm they have the right to post it. We remove user content that infringes, defames, or was posted without the rights to do so.
Third-party artwork and citations
The encyclopedia documents historical games and, where illustration is genuinely necessary to explain a subject, shows the relevant artwork alongside a written entry — the ordinary practice of reference works and criticism. Some illustrative material is drawn from openly licensed community sources and is credited on the entry that uses it. If you believe a credit is wrong, missing, or that a particular use goes further than it should, tell us and we will fix or remove it.
Trademarks
Civilization, Colonization, Sid Meier's and related names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners. Their appearance here is nominative — naming the subject of an article about it — and implies no sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation. Trademark concerns are handled through the same contact address and on the same timescale as copyright notices.
Misuse of this process
Under section 512(f) of the DMCA, a person who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages, including costs and legal fees. Please make sure your claim is one you are entitled to make.
